There is something nostalgic about the scent of oranges at Christmas. Before the commercialisation of this time of year (and mass produced decorations!) people used what they had on hand around the home to decorate and this included oranges. In some countries they still do.

We feel like people are wanting to go back to the simple way of living seasonally and naturally and we absolutely are here for it!

Our Organic Dried Orange Slices are made using locally grown organic oranges farmed by our beautiful local farmers - they not only taste amazing but they can be used for more than just a decoration or snack….

Here’s our favourite easy to use them around the festive season - and any time of year really!

  1. A Healthy snack - Eat plain or dip in chocolate. ( We LOVE this Vegan Dark and Rosemary Choc from Primo Bali.) You could also sprinkle with sea salt, too. A variation on this is chocolate bark! Spread melted chocolate over baking paper, top with the orange slices, let set, then break into big chunks.
  2. Orange Garlands - Thread string through the natural holes in the slices to make a garland, or make the holes with a skewer or the tip of a sharp knife. Tie knots in the string to keep the orange slices in place. Drape them over your Christmas tree or table decorations.
  3. Cocktails and Mocktails -Keep some dried oranges in your bar set up for a gorgeous and instantly cool cocktail garnish! We love this Spicy Lokal Orange Margi recipe.
  4. Gift them - Classy and simple -  they make a fantastic easy gift for friends, family, kids’ teachers, secret Santa etc. Grab some jars, pile the slices inside and tie a nice ribbon around the top. We like to use these as a host gift when invited to a party or dinner.
  5. Spruce up a dish -Use to add colour and scent to a nibbles platter.
  6. Add flavour - Use them to add flavour to sangria or festive mulled wine!
  7. Orange Ornaments - Hang them on your Christmas tree or around the home as ornaments.
  8. Gift Trim -they look divine tied to presents with ribbon and gift tags and maybe even a little sprig of greenery.
  9. Tea Time - Rehydrate them with hot water as a refreshing citrus tea.

***Dipping in chocolate: If you’d like to dip some of the oranges in chocolate - because we know you want to - we suggest 100 grams of dark (50 – 85% cocoa) chocolate. Simply melt in a small bowl or jug in the microwave in 30-second bursts, dip half of the orange segment in and then let dry on baking paper or a wire rack.  Sprinkle on a little sea salt before the chocolate is dry if you like.

Dried Orange FAQ’s

Q: Are oranges still sweet when they are dried? A: Yes, the sweetness is in the fleshy portion of the fruit.

Q: How long will the dried oranges last? A: They should last about a year if stored properly. If you’re using them as decorations here in Bali out in the elements they will obviously not last this long 😉

Q: Can I eat the rinds? A: You can! However, depending on the type of orange, sometimes it’s a little bitter so you may not want to. Unless it’s covered in chocolate in which case you probably won’t notice!

Q: Are dried orange slices healthy? A: YES!! Dehydrated oranges are a very healthy, completely natural treat. Dried foods also keep their nutrients for much longer than fresh foods. These are full of vitamin C and antioxidants!
