Vegan “Bulletproof” Coffee

Heard about bulletproof coffee but not sure what it's all about? Keep reading 😉

What’s the downlow on Bulletproof Coffee?  Dave Apsprey’s original version is made with unsalted, grass-fed butter, MCT oil and a low-toxin coffee. Vegan bulletproof coffee can be made with MCT oil or coconut oil instead of butter.

We make ours using this MCT oil - but regular coconut oil or ghee works well too. The original Bulletproof Coffee was meant to be used as a replacement for breakfast - (it's been called the KETO coffee) it's perfect if you like the idea of intermittent fasting but also need that boost of slow releasing energy!

If you've never heard of MCT oil - it's short for medium chain triglycerides and is found in coconut oil as well as other foods. Supplementation with MCT oil began as a fat source to help treat disease, obesity and fat malabsorption. It's had a recent gain in popularity with athletes and gym bunnies as it does provide a great boost of energy.

Why add fat into coffee? The fat helps slow down the absorption of the caffeine and provides a more stable and prolonged source of energy. It can make the effects of the caffeine last longer too, so you don't need to reach for a second cup. Drinking coffee with a bit of fat can help prevent spikes in insulin and consequent blood sugar crashes, meaning you’ll have more stable energy levels for hours after drinking it.

We love it - but before jumping on the bulletproof coffee train, keep in mind that it is in no way a superfood, magic fat burner or miracle worker. It’s just one more way to enjoy coffee in a way that is gentler on your body and nervous system!
